About Pelican Park Community Trust

Our Story

Making a Difference Through Sports and Recreational Activities

Pelican Park Community Trust (Friends of Pelican Park) became a not-for-profit organisation in 2010 and a registered charity in May 2014.  The committee was formed in 2009 by members of the community to improve much needed sport facilities in the East of the City of Hull.

Pelican Park Recreation Ground was owned by Earls Cement in 1938 to 1985, when the company moved ceased trading in Hull and sold the land for £1 to Hull City Council with a 99-year covenant that is remained a multi-sports facility for community use. However, the site so became popular with dog Walkers and youths causing anti-social behaviour. This resulted in the site not suitable to play football or cricket in those days – so the committee was formed to ensure the facility could be developed and improved for all team sports.

In August 2014 Pelican Park Community Trust signed a 25-year commercial lease with the Hull City Council, giving the sole running of the site to the charity. This opened the doors in attracting external funding to improve much  needed sport facilities at Pelican Park.

In August 2017 as a £300,000 development grant, a purpose-built community centre finally opened providing team changing rooms with showers, two smaller changing areas with showers, offices, kitchen, main hall, storage, toilets with disability access.

Since then, Pelican Park Community Trust has become a success sport and recreation charity, that works with the community, in providing quality sports facilities for multi-sport and learning activities suitable for people of all ages

Developing the site is a top priority in making sure we continue to maintain and improve our facilities. Large amounts of investment has aloso taken place to improve the football pitches, increasing the number of pitches we have on-site. Thanks to the Football Foundation we have already provided a new 11v11 pitch with a £35,000 investment. A further £27,000 was spend on resurfacing a 5v5 and 7v7 pitches, which are now fully levelled with  improved drainage.
